The Boeing-Stearman Model 75 is a biplane - trainer aircraft of the US aircraft manufacturer Boeing Stearman .

Design and purpose

The Boeing Stearman is one of the best-known and most-built double-deckers, over 8,500 units were produced from 1934. The US Army Air Corps used them with the designations PT-13 , PT-17 and PT-18 Kaydet as training aircraft. In the United States Navy it was referred to as N2S . From 1942, 300 units of the PT-27 were delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force , 150 units of the PT-17 went to China (including a license for reproduction) and a total of around 50 to Brazil, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Cuba and Venezuela. According to Boeing, 8,584 machines were produced and a further 2,000 in the form of spare parts.

After 1945, 2,100 machines were used as spray planes in agriculture. For this purpose, the wings were covered with aluminum, as the chemicals would have attacked the fabric covering. As a result, these aircraft were equipped with better engines.

Super stearman

The Super Stearman is the sport version of this aircraft.

In contrast to the classic version, it has a bonnet, red and white paintwork and has four ailerons . The Super Stearman became known as an acrobatics star at many air shows.

    • PT-13A : R-680-7 engine, 92 were built in 1937/38.
    • PT-13B : R-680-11 engine, 255 were built in 1939/40.
    • PT-13C : Equipment of six PT-13B for instrument flight training.
    • PT-13D : PT-13A with R-680-17 engine, 353 were built.

    • PT-17A : Equipment of 18 PT-17s for instrument flight.

  • N2S-3 : R-670-4 engine, 1,875 were built.
  • N2S-4 : 577 were built, including 99 USAAF PT-17s with R-670-5 engines.
  • N2S-5 : R-680-17 engine, 1,450 were built.

The USAAF took over the approval of the Kaydet for the Navy in the course of 1941, so that the aircraft in question were collected under the USAAF designation. The number of PT-13 / PT-17 includes a small number of export models. Before 1940, 295 Stearman Kaydet were built.
