Fairuza Balk (2006)

Fairuza Alejandra Balk (born May 21, 1974 in Point Reyes , California ) is an American film actress . She first gained fame in 1985 as a child actress in the fantasy film Oz - A Fantastic World . In Germany she was best known for the 1996 film Der Hexenclub .

Life

Fairuza was born to Cathryn Balk and Solomon Feldthouse. Her mother was a belly dancer, her father a musician. The name "Fairuza" comes from Persian and means "turquoise". At the age of nine, she moved to Vancouver with her mother . At the age of eleven she came to London , where she attended various drama and ballet schools. In 1988 she went to Paris to do more for her acting career. In 1989 she moved back to Vancouver. Then she went to Los Angeles to pursue a career in Hollywood . She still lives in nearby Venice . From 1995 to 2001, in addition to acting, she also owned an occult shop in Los Angeles .
