Faisal ibn Turki

Faisal ibn Turki ( Arabic السيد فيصل بن تركي, DMG as-Saiyid Faiṣal ibn Turkī ; * 1865; † October 15, 1913 ) was Sultan of Muscat and Oman (1888–1913).

Under Faisal, the domestic political unrest continued because of the rivalries between the Hinawi and Ghafiri tribes. Claims to power by some relatives also had to be fought off. In 1895, Faisal even had to put down a coup with British help, which was supported by his brother-in-law and cousin, Sultan Hamad ibn Thuwaini ibn Said of Zanzibar .

After Zanzibar stopped paying the Sultan of Muscat , the increasing national debt led to a growing influence of Britain in Oman . This became clear in the conclusion of the Protectorate Treaty of 1891. At the beginning of the 20th century, the clashes between the tribes subsided, but they flared up again after the death of Faisal under his successor Taimur ibn Faisal (1913-1931).
