Turki ibn Said, 1832-1888

Turki ibn Said ( Arabic تركي بن سعيد, DMG Turkī b. Saʿīd ; * 1832 ; † June 4, 1888 ) was Sultan of Muscat and Oman (1870–1888).

After the death of his father Said ibn Sultan (1804-1856), Turki had already challenged his brother Thuwaini ibn Said (1856-1866) for rule in Oman . In 1870, with the help of the Sheikhs of Dubai , Ajman and Ra's al-Khaimah , and financial support from Zanzibar, he succeeded in defeating Azzan ibn Qais (1868–1870) in Wadi Dhank near Ibri.

Now he was able to take control of Muscat and Oman. His government was marked by the country's economic decline and rivalries between the great tribal groups of the Hinawi and Ghafiri. He also had to deal with the followers of Azzan ibn Qais. In the following years he could only stay in power with the support of the British . He was succeeded by his son Faisal ibn Turki (1888-1913).
