The Fallada House (2017)

The so-called Falladahaus at Roten Krug 12 in Berkenbrück was the residence of Hans Fallada from autumn 1932 to spring 1933 , who had recently been in Neuenhagen near Berlin . At the time of his stay in Berkenbrück he was working part-time at Rowohlt Verlag in Berlin . In 1933 he was denounced by his landlord from Berkenbrück and taken to an SA prison in Fürstenwalde , which meant the end of his stay in Berkenbrück.

During the GDR era, the house was used as a youth hostel , but fell into disrepair after the fall of the Wall and was sold in 2012 as part of a tender.

Quotes

“A small staircase leads from the hall to the large floor, there is still something wonderful for the father in the summer: a small tower room in which he can work, with a view of the Spree and forests, forests, forests up to the Rough mountains. "

(Letter to the parents, September 1932)

“The days passed and became weeks and months; we felt more and more comfortable in the villa on the Spree. Our three-year-old son Uli cheered every tugboat that was towing long rows of barges, emitting thick, black steam, almost under the windows, to Berlin. "

("Easter 1933 with the SA", 1944)
