False Island

False Iceland ( English for Wrong Island ) is an island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is the largest in a group of three islands to the east of Hackapike Bay off the northeast coast of Anvers Island . The other two are Pear Island and Head Island .

During the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903–1905) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot , two islands were mapped at the geographical position of the island described here. The designation in 1927 by participants in the British Discovery Investigations takes this error into account.
