Temporary stairs

Staircases in the shell are built into the existing stairwell during the shell work in order to have safe access to the upper floors until the final staircase is installed. In some cases, raw wooden planks are screwed onto the steel substructure of the unfinished final staircase as steps, so that a safely accessible staircase is created.

Modular stairs

Special access stairs

  • Industrial stairs are used almost exclusively in industry. They are mostly made of steel. Stainless steel stairs are also used in the food and chemical industries. These stairs are often access points to the machine parts. The steps of these industrial stairs are either made of corrugated metal sheets , teardrop sheets or grating. Since the presence of children is not to be expected in industry, the railing often only consists of the required baseboard, knee rail and handrail.

  • The chimney sweeper staircase is a roof staircase with steps attached to the roof. The stairs lead from skylights to the chimneys to enable the chimney sweeper to clean the chimneys from the outside. These are usually grate stairs. In the past there were also wooden steps, but they are no longer used due to the risk of slipping when wet.
  • Access to the pulpit, the place for the speaker, especially in Christian churches, is via the pulpit stairs.
  • The swimming pool stairs in a swimming pool must be made particularly safe to walk in order to prevent the bathers from slipping. Tiles specially designed for this area and stainless steel stairs with corrugated and perforated sheets are used.
  • Particularly striking show stairs are used for stage and television shows for the performances of individual stars and groups. These stairs often have no banisters so as not to obstruct the view of the stars. Usually these are very simple stair substructures with a classy-looking finish. The show staircase is also known as the start staircase.
  • Especially small, narrow stairs are colloquially called chicken ladders.
  • Weinbergstaffel is the name for the narrow vineyard stairs that allow access to the vineyards.
