Fangelturm (Barth)
The Fangelturm in Barth ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ) is a defense tower and Fangelturm and was part of the city fortifications.
The existing brick tower was built in the 16th century. It is twelve meters high, with a diameter of 7.7 meters and a wall thickness of 1.90 meters. After its use as a defense tower, it was used as a prison tower, as its name suggests. In the 19th century, the defensive structure, which was originally crowned with battlements, was rebuilt and the upper storey and a domed roof added. A school observatory has been located on the roof of the tower since 1965 .
