Lanyard (headgear)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A lanyard (also known as cordon ) is a differently designed cord that connects the headgear with the uniform of the cavalry or is looped around the neck. It should ensure that if the headgear falls off the rider's head, it is not lost and can be put on again by the rider. In the military, this cord changed into a pure badge at the beginning of the 20th century (see catch cord or armpit cord ).

With different riding hats z. B. Cowboy hat or sombrero , the chin strap braided from horse hair or leather is also called storm strap , tether or stampede string . It should prevent the hat from being lost, for example during a fast ride, drooping branches or a stampede .
