Fanny (grape variety)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fanny is a white, undemanding and fungus-resistant table grape from Hungary . Due to their early ripeness and good frost resistance, they can also be grown in somewhat harsher climates. It has no special demands on soil and climate. Fanny is recognized as an ornamental grape variety in Germany and has been protected since 2001. Jörg Wolf from Bad Dürkheim works as a maintenance breeder .

Fanny is a cross of Villard Blanc x (Teli Muskotaly X Olimpia) and belongs to the hybrid grape family . The new breed comes from Jozsef Csizmazia from the Research Institute for Viticulture and Cellar Management in Eger . Resistance to fungal diseases and resistance to hard winter frost were defined as the breeding goal.

The white table grape Fanny is well suited for commercial and amateur cultivation. It is very robust against diseases, so there is almost no crop protection required.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is slightly woolly hairy. The bronze-colored, spotted young leaves are only slightly hairy.
  • The medium-sized leaves are five-lobed and deeply indented (see also the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is open. The leaf surface (also called the leaf blade) is slightly blistered.
  • The grape is medium-sized (at least 500 grams) and has loose berries. The broadly elliptical berries are large and yellowish-green in color. They are crisp, neutral, have a harmonious taste with firm pulp.

The grape variety has a strong growth and ripens in late August to early September. The variety is tolerant of the fungal diseases powdery mildew and downy mildew of the grapevine . Their resistance to gray mold rot ( Botrytis cinerea ) is remarkable.

It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
