Farid Handal

Farid Handal (* 1936 in Usulután ; † 1994 in Havana ) was chairman of the Partido de Acción Renovadora (PAR) in El Salvador from 1966 to 1967 .

His parents were Yamile (Erlinda) and Giries Abdallah Hándal Nassar or Jorge for short, his siblings were Miriam, Elizabeth, José Orlando, Antonio and Schafik Handal . The Handal family exploited the richest salt mine in La Union in east El Salvador. The Hándals had emigrated from the Catholic community in Bethlehem in the Ottoman Empire . A great uncle, Elías Hándal, founded the hardware and building materials trade, Hándal & sobrinos , in Usulután in 1913 . In 1964 Farid was at the international cadre school in the USSR. Farid came to Berlin in 1967 , a municipality in El Salvador, Usulután Department , which was dominated by the Partido de Conciliación Nacional military party . In this Berlin, Luciano Zacapa was the founder of the local death squad . Farid had a marble trade at the entrance to Usulután. In 1970, his candidacy for mayor of the Ciudad de Usulután for the Unión Democrática Nacionalista (UDN) was rejected because his Savadorian citizenship was not recognized. 1974 put him back on the UDN as a candidate for Mayor for Usulután. Farid was elected by a majority, but he was denied the mayor's office due to a large-scale electoral fraud, which included losing some ballot boxes. From 1980 Farid had diplomatic tasks at the FMLN .
