history

With the liquidation of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (Rock Island) in 1980, the western part of Oklahoma was cut off from the railway network. The Oklahoma government therefore acquired important routes and leased them to railroad companies. On November 19, 1981, Farmrail began on the leased Clinton - Elk City route with the implementation of train journeys. Later, the operation on the east-west route (former Memphis – Tucumcari railway line on the Rock Island) was extended to Erick . In January 1993, the section from Westhom to Elmer (164 kilometers), part of the former north-south route of the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railroad , was added. This stretch was also leased by the state.

Since 2007, Farmrail has been offering an excursion train running on Saturdays under the name “Quartz Mountain Flyer”.

Vehicle fleet

In 2006 the company owned four locomotives (one EMD SW9, three EMD GP9).
