The Farnell Parish Kirk , also Farnell Parish Church , is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish village of Farnell in the Council Area Angus . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

A church has been on the site since the Middle Ages . The current parish church was built in 1806 to a design by the Scottish architect James Playfair . Since then, two window openings on the north facade have been closed by masonry. In 1929 the interior was modernized. Since 2008 the parish of Farnell has been linked to that of the Gardner Memorial Church in Brechin . Both parishes share a pastor's office.

The neo-Gothic Farnell Parish Kirk stands within the surrounding cemetery on the southern edge of the hamlet of Farnell around 4.5 kilometers south of Brechin. The masonry of the elongated hall church is made of red sandstone and is partly weathered. The final gable roof is covered with slate. The gables are clad in an ogival shape and, like the side facades, have pseudo battlement reinforcement. Buttresses divide the facades vertically. Inside, the Farnell Parish Kirk has an ornate vault . Historical cross plates have been found in the surrounding churchyard .
