The Faro Les Éclaireurs is a lighthouse ( Faro in Spanish ) in Argentina . It stands on an uninhabited island in the Beagle Channel , about eight nautical miles from the port of Ushuaia , one of the southernmost places on earth .
The eleven meter high lighthouse was built from 1918 on the northeastern island of Islotes les Éclaireurs with brick and went into operation on December 23, 1920. The unmanned beacon is now powered by solar energy and is maintained and monitored by the Argentine shipping authority Servicio de Hidrografía Naval .
