Farol de D. Maria Pia (also: Farol da Ponta Temerosa or Farol da Praia ) is a lighthouse on the island of Santiago , which belongs to Cape Verde .

The lighthouse is located on the Ponta Temerosa, an elevation on the extreme southern tip of the island of Santiago. The lighthouse indicates the entrance to the port of Praia , the capital of Cape Verde.
history
The lighthouse was built in 1881 under Portuguese colonial rule. It is named after the Portuguese Queen Maria Pia of Savoy .
