Pheasantry (Toszek)

The pheasantry begins behind the railway line

The Fasanerie ( Polish Fazaniec, Las Fazaniec) in Toszek ( German Tost ) is a forest area created in the east of the city in the 19th century. It lies between Toszek and Kotliszowice (Kottlischowitz) and has an area of ​​64.6 hectares. In the forest there are boulders, some ponds and brooks and in the north it is traversed by the Toster Bach (Toszek, Toszecki Potok).

history

The pheasantry was established in 1848. In the beginning there were fallow deer and wild boar here and the pheasant breeding farm that gave it its name . Even a Russian Grand Duke got pheasants from here for the Tsar's Park near Moscow ( Tsaritsyno Park ).

The forest was a popular destination from an early age, and today it is also used for teaching purposes. In 2007, a nature trail was laid out in the pheasantry by the high school in Toszek and the forestry office.

There are around 200 species of plants in the pheasantry. Tree species include a. Oak, pine, beech and hornbeam, some with an age of 210 years.

Three trees are classified as natural monuments: a common beech (Fagus sylvatica) with a height of 35 meters and two pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur) with a height of 28 meters and 32 meters.

An herbaceous plants to find wood anemone (Anemone nemorosa), the Fingered Corydalis (Corydalis solida), the lesser celandine (Ficaria verna), the spotted lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis), the liverwort (Hepatica nobilis), Foam herbs (Cardamine) and Daphne (Daphne ).
