The Fasori Evangélikus Gimnázium (literally about "Evangelisches Gymnasium an der Allee", sometimes referred to in German as the Budapest Lutheran Gymnasium and similar) is a traditional grammar school in Budapest . The school was founded in 1823 by the Lutheran Church of Hungary . Initially, the school was located on Deák Ferenc Square , in 1864 it was moved to Sütő utca and in 1904, together with the new Protestant church, was given its final location at today's address Városligeti fasor. The school had a humanistic orientation and the language of instruction was German. The students included members of various denominations, especially many sons from the Jewish bourgeoisie. The grammar school had to close under communist rule in 1952, but was reopened as a Hungarian grammar school in 1989 after its end.

Traditionally it was one of the best schools in Hungary and had many important scholars and artists as students:

Among the previous students and teachers were Georg Lukács , Theodor Herzl , Antal Doráti , László Rátz (the teacher and sponsor of Neumanns and Wigners), Alfréd Haar , Miksa Fenyö , Gyula Szepesy , Adolf Fényes , Miksa Falk , Aurél Stein and Vilmos Tátrai .
