FastPort

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FastPort was a proprietary hardware interface introduced by Sony Ericsson , through which your own cell phones with accessories such as e. B. Headphones or computers (via USB ) have been connected. This interface has been in use since around 2005, and from 2010 models were provided with a micro USB port . The FastPort was mostly at the bottom of the phone on earlier models, and on the side on most later devices.

With this standard, accessories from previous models (e.g. K750i ) can also be used in younger models (e.g. K850i ). Cross-series combinations are also possible, e.g. B. between Cyber-shot - and Walkman - phones (. Eg W550). However, in many of the latter models, the connection was no longer below, but on the left side, which meant that these models were incompatible with certain accessories such as table charging stations or car mounts. The usability when carrying a cell phone with attached accessories in the pocket or in the hand was also restricted.

use

FastPort connector
  • Data transfer
  • Connection for accessories, e.g. B. headsets , adapter to 3.5 mm jack plug
  • Connection of a charger to charge the accumulator; It is often possible to transfer data or listen to music via headphones / headset while charging.

construction

The connector has up to 12 pins for electrical connections (for power supply and data), although not all pins have to be populated. Two double-sided "hooks" on the plug and matching holes in the device connector are located at both ends to keep the plug securely in place. The dimensions of the headphone plug are approximately 20 × 5 mm.

To identify the type of cable and to show how to insert the plug correctly, there is a small symbol on the side that points towards the front of the mobile phone. There is also a small lightning bolt on the power plugs, a classic headphone symbol on the headsets and wireless plugs, a computer screen on data cables and finally a node symbol on music accessories.

Similar connectors

Other cell phone brands had similar types of connectors, such as Nokia's Pop-Port , but they weren't used to provide power.
