Sony Ericsson K850

The K850i with O2 branding

The Sony Ericsson K850 is a UMTS - mobile phone of the Swedish - Japanese telecommunications company Sony Ericsson , which was published in October of 2007. The phone was developed under the code name Sofia and is the successor of the Sony Ericsson K800 . The K850i is available in three color options: Luminous Green , Quicksilver / Black and Velvet Blue .

In addition to the camera function, the device is unusual for the manufacturer due to its changed operation. The navigation key is no longer located above the numeric keypad, but is designed as a rectangular key that surrounds the numeric keys 2 and 5. The separate keys for accepting and ending calls, which were otherwise traditionally operated with the softkeys, are also new. Another innovation is that Sony-Ericsson devices support not only Sony’s own Memory Stick Micro (M2) but also the widespread Micro-SD / Transflash standard.

The prototype name Sofia also refers to the hardware platform of the K850i, which was used for subsequent mobile phones from Sony Ericsson .

known problems

One problem is the so-called Blue Ring Of Death (analogous to Blue Screen of Death ), because with this problem the cell phone display does not show anything, but every lighting element, including the blue ring around the camera, lights up. This is a software problem and can be fixed with a firmware update. As usual with such profound changes, all content not previously saved (e.g. SMS , pictures, etc.) is lost.
