Fathi Baja
Fathi Mohammed Baja ( Arabic فتحي محمد البعجة, often also Fatih Mohammed Baja , or Fathi Baja for short ) (* in Benghazi ) is a Libyan political scientist and member of the National Transitional Council .
Life
Baja studied in the United States and Morocco , where he received a PhD in Political Science. He taught at Garyounis University in Benghazi until the outbreak of the Libyan civil war in 2011 .
Baja supported the rebels during the civil war. He is the lead author of a manifesto that names democracy and national unity as the main goals of the revolution. He is one of the representatives of the city of Benghazi on the National Transitional Council and heads the Political Affairs Advisory Committee . In this position he maintains contact with foreign governments and represents Libya in relation to the Libya Contact Group formed by several international organizations ( United Nations , European Union , NATO , African Union ).
Baja said that the councilors learned from historical events such as the de- Baathification following the Second Iraq War and the aftermath of the collapse of the Eastern Bloc . Many police officers and officials should therefore keep their posts even after the civil war in order to enable a stable transition. Only those who participated in war crimes or embezzled state assets should be legally prosecuted. He stressed that the goal of the revolution was a liberal and democratic Libya that had good relations with its neighboring countries.
