Fatih Portakal (born February 2, 1968 in Nazilli ) is a Turkish journalist and former television presenter at FOX Türkiye .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1985, Portakal completed an internship at Istanbul University . From August 31, 1996 to 2005 he was a journalist for the Turkish television station Star TV . In 2005 he took over the news at Kanal D Haber . From 2004 to September 2010, he presented the news broadcasts Fatih Portakal ile Ne Yapmalı in channel D . From September 2010 he moderated the main news at FOX Türkiye ( Fox Ana Haber ). From 2010 to 2013 he was also featured on the morning news and information show Fatih Portakal ile Çalar Saat .

His show regularly has the highest audience ratings of the evening and Portakal is one of the most popular news presenters in the country. A feature of his broadcast are the audience questions and comments that he reads out and answers or tries to answer. He also lets people have their say who would otherwise no longer be heard; see. Media in Turkey . On April 30, 2020, proceedings were initiated against the journalist. The public prosecutor's office is demanding up to three years in prison for criticizing Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's donation campaign on Twitter . The broadcasting authority imposed fines on Fox because Portakal had "incited hatred and hostility" with its corona reporting. If there is another “offense”, the authorities threaten to close the transmitter.

On August 24, 2020 it was announced that Portakal had quit his job at FOX Türkiye and would like to retire.
