Star TV is the first Swiss private broadcaster to be broadcast over the cable network, IPTV and Internet television and went on air on August 31, 1995. Paul Grau is the founder and managing director .

In autumn 2012, the station reoriented itself and completely changed the broadcast concept. Since this relaunch, Star TV has been concentrating on film. 2 feature films are broadcast daily. In addition to the feature film, Star TV relies on the weekly cinema program FilmAPP, which shows background information on current cinema films. Star TV broadcasts live events such as the Prix Walo or the election of the Rusty Paragraph throughout the year.

Up until the station's relaunch, the program consisted largely of inexpensive productions, as a lot of program content could be bought cheaply (or completely free of charge, such as making-of ) or other programs were largely sponsored, e.g. B. the video game programs from Sony ( Playstation ).

history

On August 31, 1995, the channel Star TV went on air for the first time and is thus the first national private broadcaster in Switzerland , and not Tele24 , which began its news program with the slogan s'erschte private TV vo de Schwiiz . The station's first editor-in-chief was the film journalist and historian Peter Neumann , who also moderated various programs himself. He left the station at his own request after three years of activity. At that time, the station focused on the metropolitan areas of Zurich , Bern , Basel and St. Gallen , but the reception area was constantly expanding.

In 2000 the station positioned itself as a target group television in the film, lifestyle and entertainment sectors. In 2003 the station received a license for digital, interactive television.

Pät Schreiber has been program manager at Star TV Medien since December 2019.
