Fatima grotto in Naumburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fatima grotto in Naumburg is a grotto built in an old quarry near Naumburg . It was built in 1956 by a group of young pilgrims from Naumburg who had gone to the Portuguese pilgrimage site of Fátima and brought a statue of the Virgin Mary with them.

In the hewn cave established figure, the praying Maria is and was on Trinity Sunday in 1956 inaugurated . The current Fatima grotto is used for May devotions and in October - the month of the Rosary - for services . At first the cave was only of local importance, but gained national importance through further pilgrimages to Fatima. A stone tablet with the dates reminds of the pilgrimages that were carried out. Once a year there is a foot pilgrimage from Baunatal to the Fatima grotto.
