faulenzA (* 1988 in Mönchengladbach , bourgeois Caren Dobberkau ) is a German singer, author and activist.

Life

In her childhood and youth, FaulenzA played in the guitar orchestra Schwalmtalzupfern . At the age of 14 she founded a punk band with school friends and was active in several formations. In 2008 she played her first concert as a solo singer-songwriter in Café Herr Lehmann in Düsseldorf , then for the first time under the name FaulenzA. She also makes street music with voice and accordion. In the following years she played concerts in the entire German-speaking area and was successful in the scene; Songs like Die Autonome Maus , Stray Punk and Tanzen have been covered by other bands. Since 2011 she has been active in the Rotzfreche Asphaltkultur network, a network of street musicians.

Since 2011 FaulenzA has been expanding its style to include hip-hop borrowings with longer rap passages, inspired by Lena Stoehrffekt and Sookee .

In 2012 their first album was released, Mice Anarchy . Paul Geigerzähler and Merle were guests on the album. FaulenzA was living in Bochum at the time.

Shortly afterwards, FaulenzA came out publicly as a trans woman and moved to Berlin.

Since 2013 she has also been doing hip hop with rap beats without instrumentation. In her second album, Glitzerrebellion , which was released in 2014, she addresses her coming out and her trans identity. Guests on this album were Lena Stoehrffekt , Anke von Frucht des Zorns and Merle.

In 2015 she was listed on the Berlin label Springstoff , a label and agency for political artists and speakers. There she is not only there with her music, but also with workshops on transmisogyny (discrimination against trans femininity) and trans-hostility , as well as training on empowerment , self-assertion and self-defense.

Her activism for trans rights is also perceived in the media across the region , such as in a video portrait of the RBB 2015 or in the web documentary Berlin Trans Istanbul about trans activism in Berlin and Istanbul by Laurence Thio and Christoph Henkel.

2016 FaulenzA produced together with LeijONE their third album, Einhornrap . Einhornrap is her first album that breaks with her singer-songwriter style and is a pure rap album. FaulenzA also played the guitar in the rap beats again and again, so it's more of a musical development than a break. What is also special about the album is that it features features with well-known queer feminist artists such as Msoke, Sookee, Sir Mantis (then under the stage name Jennifer Gegenläufer), Lady Lazy, Carmel Zoum and Riva from Anarchist Academy . The Berlin gay and lesbian magazine Siegessäule voted the album the fifth best album in 2016.

In 2016 she also began a collaboration with the street music theater troupe Der Müll der last Tage and the queer-feminist anarcha-folk-punk band Crusty Schimmelfahrt.

In 2017 FaulenzA published her first book, Support Your Sisters Not Your Cisters. In it, she describes and criticizes how trans females are discriminated against and encourages solidarity cis people to support their "sisters". The book is illustrated by Yori Gagarim. The illustrations with quotes from the book are also part of a sticker series.

In 2018 FaulenzA released her second rap album on Springstoff, Wunderwesen , produced by LeiiONE and with features by Sookee, Finna, Lady Lazy, Carmel Zoum, Riva and Haszcara .

In 2019 the second book by FaulenzA was published by edition assemblage . Under the title Reclaim the Stage , the book collects song texts, poems and stories from FaulenzA.

music

In her music, faulenzA combines political issues with humor and intimate texts with touching melodies. She sees her art as an empowerment for LGBTI * and other women and as part of her activism.

faulenzA is also committed to anti-racist campaigns. On August 31, 2019, she took part as a musician in a rally after a demonstration against detention pending deportation. There was demonstrated against the then 25-year-old deportation detention center in Büren and the 100 year old practice of deportation detention.
