The Federation of Veterinarians of Europe ( FVE ) is the umbrella organization of 47 veterinary associations from 39 European countries. It was founded in 1975 and represents 200,000 European veterinarians through its member associations. For Germany, both the Federal Chamber of Veterinarians and the Federal Association of Practicing Veterinarians are members of the FVE, for Austria the Austrian Chamber of Veterinarians , and for Switzerland the Society of Swiss Veterinarians .

Fields of activity

The Federation of Veterinarians of Europe represents the views of the member states on questions of animal health and animal welfare as well as veterinary policy to the European institutions ( European Commission , European Parliament and European Council ) and the various interest groups in Europe and worldwide.

The core topics aim to keep animals healthy and to protect people. strengthen the economy and protect the environment. Veterinarians play an important role in society. The FVE wants to ensure that veterinarians can carry out their work at a high level - for the benefit of all. The FVE is committed to improving the quality of veterinary education, including lifelong learning, to ensure that veterinarians are trained to do the best possible. The FVE promotes the reputation and recognition of the importance of the profession in society. FEV regularly conducts surveys among European veterinarians on their professional practice.

Positions

On June 6, 2015, the FVE adopted a position paper calling for a ban on the use of wild animals in traveling circuses. It is not possible there to adequately satisfy the physiological, psychological and social needs of the animals.
