Field bakery, date unknown

Field bakeries were set up for the troops in the field bakeries .

Germany

The army of the German Reich had a field bakery column for each mobile (i.e. deployed) army corps that belonged to the train . The task of these columns was to set up and manage field bakeries and to stock up on baked goods such as bread .

So-called catering trolleys such as oven trolley 90 were used for this .

If the army corps moved, the field bakery followed after a while. When it came to a standstill, the field bakery was usually set up in connection with magazines and made more efficient by building ovens and using private bakeries and bread factories.

Mobile field bakeries were introduced in Prussia under Frederick the Great .
