The Evangelical-Lutheran field stone church Meuchefitz is the church of the Evangelical-Lutheran. Meuchefitz parish. The community belongs to the Lüchow-Dannenberg parish in the regional church of Hanover .

The field stone church stands south outside the village on a hill. The long distance to the Rundling is atypical for the Wendland . The church is surrounded by the parish cemetery and enclosed by a stone wall.

history

The church was probably built at the end of the 13th century. The Reformation was introduced in the parish of Meuchefitz until 1534 according to the Lüneburg benefice register. The parish has always shared a parish with the coastal parish .

Architecture and equipment

The church has a single nave with a round end of the choir . The tower was built later and the tower base was renewed with brickwork around 1900. The tower is clad with boards and has a copper roof. The church is rather small at around 13 × 9.50 m. Next to the entrance on the northern side there is a grooved stone and a stone called the "devil's face ".

The Marientod relief from the 15th century is a small artistic treasure . It comes from the coastal parish and was perhaps part of a Marian altar. The dying Mary is shown surrounded by the twelve disciples . It is a non-biblical scene from popular belief. The relief is carved from a piece of hardwood and has been restored in a specialist workshop in the original colors, mainly gold.

Altar and baptismal angel

The interior of the church is simple. In the apse-like semicircular end of the choir there is a baroque pulpit altar from 1706. The pulpit altar is richly decorated with ornaments, angel heads and paintings and decorated with the names of the donors. A communion scene is depicted on the predella .

The baptismal angel in the Meuchefitzer church is one of the few remaining baptismal angels in the churches of the region. It has been used again since 2002 after it was exhibited in the Amtsturm Museum in Lüchow for a while and then had to be renovated. Presumably made in the first half of the 18th century, it is carved from linden wood and mostly white-beige with a few colored elements in gold, red and green. With the iron suspension it can be lowered from the ceiling.

The small single-manual organ is built into the gallery parapet as a so-called parapet post. It was built in 1969 by the organ building workshop Führer and has four registers .
