Felice Rix-Ueno (born June 1, 1893 in Vienna ; † October 15, 1967 in Kyoto , Japan ) was an Austrian painter , graphic artist and textile artist.

life and work

Rix-Ueno studied from 1913 to 1917 at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna with Oscar Strnad , Adele von Stark , Rosalia Rothansl and Josef Hoffmann . She worked for the Wiener Werkstätte with ceramics , fabrics, glass paintings and decors, pearl work, enamel and designed the portfolios “Die Mode” (1914/15) and “The Life of a Lady” (1916). She also worked there in the fashion department. She was a member of the Austrian Werkbund and the Viennese women's art. After marrying the architect Isaburo Ueno , she settled with him in Kyoto in 1935 after several stays. In Japan she made, among other things, the glass ceiling in the Sogō department store in Osaka in 1931 . From 1936 she worked at the Gumma Prefecture Industrial Institute with Bruno Taut . From 1949 to 1963 she was a professor at the Municipal Art School of Kyoto. As an artist, she worked with the architect Togo Murano .
