Feliks Rybicki

Feliks Rybicki (born January 24, 1899 in Warsaw ; † August 24, 1978 there ) was a Polish composer , conductor and music teacher.

He studied composition at the Warsaw Conservatory from 1919 to 1925 with Roman Statkowski and, after his death, with Witold Maliszewski, as well as conducting with Emil Młynarski and Henryk Melcer-Szczawiński . In 1924 he married Helena geb. Penther.

Rybicki made his debut in 1926 as a conductor in the Warsaw Philharmonic , where he conducted the oratorio choir from 1937 to 1939. During the Second World War he worked as a piano teacher and also performed as a pianist in Warsaw coffee houses. After the World War he worked for the Polish Radio from 1945 . From 1951 to 1953 he was a professor at the Higher Music School in Sopot . From 1957 until reaching retirement age in 1970 he directed the orchestra and choir of the Warsaw Music Academy. He also directed a number of amateur choirs.

His work includes over 50 opus numbers, mostly compositions intended for educational use. Rybicki also composed film music. He died in Warsaw and was buried in the old Powązki cemetery .
