Feline Melinda is a melodic metal rock band from South Tyrol founded in 1986 .

Band history

The band was founded in the 1980s by Rob Irbiz ( real name Robert Gallmetzer) and Andy De Santis (real name Andrea De Santis). The band's first drummer was Helmuth Giovanett. The demo tape Praeludium and the first version of the song Feline Melinda were recorded with him in a German recording studio in Hattingen. This song was released on the vinyl sampler German Metal Fighters - Volume 1 .

After Helmut Giovanett, drummer Attilio Rovai played with the band for a short time until the first permanent line-up for Feline Melinda was established with Tommy Ti.Grotto (real name Thomas Grotto).

In 1988 the debut album The Felines Await You was recorded with the existing line-up at Eastwood Music Studios in Bielefeld . In 1989 the video clip for the song You're A Witch was shot. Along with the song If You Need Me was You're A Witch on the German CD compilation Heart And Heavy - Take this song published.

In 1990 Grotto left the group; Drummer Chris Platzer (real Christian Platzer) joined the band as a replacement. The music direction changed from pure speed metal to airplay- oriented hard & heavy songs. Several concerts at local and national level followed, including as the opening act for Uriah Heep (1991 in Bozen).

Also in Bielefeld (Trickbag recording studio) some songs were recorded for a promo demo in 1991; including Born In Europe . This song was released with modified text on the 1995 maxi CD entitled Living In Europe . For the original version of the song Born In Europe , which was never released on an official phonogram, a video clip was shot as a low-budget production .

The maxi CD Living In Europe , produced in Reilingen (Face Music / Germany) in 1994, contains four songs; However, this sound carrier did not get beyond an insider status. Songs from the maxi CD were released on various samplers over the course of the following years. A video clip was also produced for the piano-oriented ballad Don't Cry , consisting of a mix of recordings of concert performances and private videos. The video clip was published on the VHS video compilation of the Italian music magazine Tendence .

Although the band did not split up, Feline Melinda fell silent in the following years; there were no releases of new phonograms, but sporadic appearances at local level and in neighboring countries. In the background, however, they worked on new song material.

In 2002 they started recording a new full-length album. The album of the same name Feline Melinda was recorded between Bolzano, Lake Garda and the final mastering in Germany . This sound carrier shows a cross-section of the band's work in all the years since its existence. The majority consists of unreleased songs; however, some songs come from previous productions and have been remastered. The album was released in 2004 and ended an important period in the band's life, because in the same year founding member, bassist and singer Andy De Santis left the trio for personal reasons and in agreement with the other band members. As a replacement for De Santis, the Merano bassist Gschnell (civil Christian Gschnell) was hired in November. The new line-up was also the beginning of the new band era.

Rob Irbiz composed new song material, which was arranged in collaboration with Chris Platzer, so that in 2005 a first version of the song Dangerzone was recorded in a South German recording studio. Concerts and the consistently positive response from audiences and media encouraged the band to consider producing a new album.

The recording of the new sound carrier began in early 2006 in the Bozen recording studio ZEM in collaboration with the young and talented sound engineer Marco Ober. However, the mixing of the songs did not take place there due to the imminent closure of the recording studio and divergences with the management of the studio. After an extensive search, Bobby Altvater, owner of the Skystudio (Taufkirchen / Germany) found the right partner for mixing the songs. Mika Jussila from Finnvox Studios (Helsinki / Finland) was responsible for the final mastering .

In June 2008 the album Morning Dew was released internationally by the Italian hard and heavy label My Graveyard Productions . A video clip for the song Skydiver was shot in Milan last year under professional conditions with the music video company Filmmaster Clip . The video clip and the corresponding making-of can be found on the sound carrier, a so-called enhanced CD, together with official band photos. The song Skydiver could be placed on various compilation CDs, including a. Loud Sounds # 67 , 2008, Rock Hard / Italy and Hard Pack Vol. 1 , 2009, 7Hard / Germany.

In 2010, the band and the label My Graveyard Productions agreed on the re-release of their debut The Felines Await You . The label met a long-cherished wish of the band. The album was remastered for this purpose and released as a CD collector's edition as an enhanced CD. In addition to the songs of the debut, the sound carrier also contains the first version of the song Feline Melinda as a bonus track , as well as historical photo material and the restored video clip of You're A Witch .

After new song material was available again, the follow-up album was produced by Morning Dew . It was recorded, edited and mixed in several stages, including in recording studios such as B. the Artifact Studio / Italy and Skystudio / Germany. In the course of the production of the album, Rob and Chris got to know the young and talented solo guitarist, HeadMatt (bourgeois Mattia Carli), and their initial participation as a guest musician for the recording of a solo for a song became a permanent collaboration. Eventually he was accepted into the band and Feline Melinda became a quartet from then on. In the following years the music group intensified their concert activities u. a. at important festivals at home and abroad.

In 2014 the album was released with the title Dance Of Fire And Rain . A video clip of the ballad Luna (My Love) , which can be found on the sound carrier, was also produced.

In 2015 the group was invited to the most important and largest open-air event in southern Italy, the Agglutination Metal Festival ( Chiaromonte / Italy), where they acted as ambassadors for the north of the peninsula in southern Italy together with bands such as Obituary , Edguy , Arthemis and others. a. m. stood on the stage. Feline Melinda was given the special honor of producing the official festival anthem, Agglutination Forever , for the anniversary edition of the event . It is a specially adapted version of their song Forever , which was adapted for this event with its own lyrics and a new guitar solo.

Feline Melinda celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016. The band took this as an opportunity to organize a unique and special concert event in the hometown of the drummer Chris Platzer. Together with other artists (a choir, dancers, moderator and some guest musicians), a benefit concert took place in the culture hall of Eppan in October 2016, the proceeds of which were donated to the Association for Children with Cancer - South Tyrol Peter Pan. The concert was recorded with video and sound. This resulted in the relevant live album and, in a further step, a video of the anniversary appearance.

Just in time for the anniversary, the band fulfilled a long-cherished dream with the release of a ballad album. As a noble digipack version in limited edition, the album is entitled Just Ballads and contains only all love songs that the group has released on various albums over the decades, including the acoustic ballad Mary Magdalene, which was composed and produced especially for this compilation .

2017 began with some appearances in spring as the opening act for the German happy metal formation Freedom Call on the occasion of their tour to promote the new album. Furthermore, Feline Melinda presented the latest official sound carrier, their first live album in the long history of the band, at another benefit concert in autumn. It is entitled Three Decades - Live At The Kultursaal Theater and was produced with the audio recordings of the anniversary concert of the previous year.
