Felipe Lara (singer)

Felipe Gértrudix Lara ( El Extremeno ; born April 12, 1945 in Don Benito ) is a Spanish flamenco singer .

The son of the singer Felipe Gértrudix Rodado and the poet Luisa Lara Miranda studied Flamenco singing in Málaga, Cádiz and Seville and was in Madrid a member of the of Pepe el de la Matrona and Bernardo el de los Lobitos led Peña Charlot . In 1962 he passed the examination as a professional flamenco singer. In 1964 he was a prizewinner at the IV Festival del Cante de las Minas in La Unión and from 1964–65 finalist in the program Salto a la Fama on TVE. In 1966 he received the Estrella de Oro for his participation in the program La Nueva Ola Musical by La Voz de Madrid .

After his military service, Lara was engaged in the Sala El Flamenco in Bordeaux and gave concerts in southwest France. In 1970 he gave flamenco workshops on television in the Buenas Tardes program series . In 1971 he produced the program Cien Estilos del Flamenco as a screenwriter, director and speaker for Radio España based on his collection of nine LPs of the same name, in which he presented the geographically and chronologically different styles of flamenco.

He appeared in the 1970s as a flamenco specialist on various Spanish radio stations, published several books and numerous articles and interviews in magazines on the subject. For the Centro Nacional de Información y comunicación Educativa of the Ministry of Education and Science, he developed multimedia resources to support music lessons from 2001. At the Conservatorio Superior de Danza “María de Ávila” and at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música “Arturo Soria” in Madrid, he gave courses on the history and development of flamenco from 2006 onwards.

Lara composed a total of more than 1000 works, of which around 600 have been recorded by himself or other singers.
