Felix Cornu

Felix Cornu (born December 26, 1882 in Prague , † September 27, 1909 in Leoben ) was an Austrian mineralogist and petrograph .

life and work

Cornu was the son of the novelist Jules Cornu . He studied mineralogy at the University of Vienna under Friedrich Becke , received his doctorate there in 1906 with the work Hibschit, a new contact mineral (named after his model Josef Emanuel Hibsch ) and published 60 scientific articles in a short time. In 1907 he became a private lecturer at the Montanistische Hochschule Leoben . He died by suicide. His mother dedicated the Felix Cornu memorial volume to him . Leaves of loving remembrance and understanding , Dresden and Leipzig 1923.

Cornu was considered one of the best mineralogists of his time, especially in colloid mineralogy. The mineral Cornuit and the Felix Cornu Prize awarded by the Colloid Society are named after him.
