Felix Görling

Felix Görling (born May 18, 1860 in Leipzig , † November 29, 1932 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor and painter . He became known for his creative sculpture, which moved in the field of the then particularly cultivated monument art.

life and work

The sculptor and painter Felix Görling was born in Leipzig in 1860. He received his training from 1881 to 1884 with Fritz Schaper at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. From 1897 Görling was on the board of the Berlin bronze foundry of Hermann Gladenbeck , later he acted as its technical director, from 1918 until the liquidation of the company also as artistic director. Görling made a significant contribution to the foundry's global reputation. For example, the extensive statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I at the old Berlin Palace became known.

Görling designed numerous other classical monuments and busts , e.g. B. von Humboldt , Lingenfeld and Friedrichs the Great , which were made in the Gladenbeck bronze foundry. In 1884 he took part in the Berlin Academy Exhibition with the fencer , and in 1891 he was represented at the International Art Exhibition with a statue of Emperor Friedrich I. In addition, he created small bronzes that were sold as edition sculptures and are now traded in well-known auction houses. From 1901 to 1920 Görling was a member of the Association of Berlin Artists. He also worked as a landscape painter.

Since 1880, the center of his life has been in the Berlin district of Friedrichshagen . Despite his large area of ​​responsibility, he found time to get involved in the interests of the citizens of Friedrichshagen. For many years he was a member of the community council. He was also the creator of the monument to Frederick the Great, which stands on the market square in Friedrichshagen; the foundation stone was laid in 1903 for the 150th anniversary of Friedrichhagen.

Görling accompanied the emperor on his northern travels. When the Kaiser was visiting Friedrichshagen, he never failed to pay a visit to Görling to see the latest products from the foundry. Felix Göring died in Berlin in 1932.
