Felix Klieser (* 1991 in Göttingen ) is a German horn player .

Life

Felix Klieser's career followed his wish to play the horn, which he had already expressed at the age of four. Although he was born without arms, he started taking lessons at the age of five. He learned to operate the valves with the toes of his left foot. The instrument is firmly attached to a special metal stand developed for him by an instrument maker. He is thus able to meet all the fluency requirements known in the Horn literature. He also developed a specific approach technique that allows him to produce the typical soft and dark sound of the horn even without a hand in the bell ( plugging technique ). If this playing technique, which is common for the horn, is unavoidable, he uses a mechanical device that he has also developed for tamping, which he can operate with his right foot.

As a teenager, Felix Klieser won numerous prizes, including the national youth music competition . At the age of 13 he was accepted as a young student at the Hanover University of Music, where he began regular music studies in the 2010/2011 winter semester. It was here that Markus Maskuniitty, former principal horn of the Berlin Philharmonic, became his teacher. Master classes, etc. a. at Peter Damm , rounded off his training. In addition to his studies, he is touring as a concert soloist mainly in Germany and neighboring countries.

From 2008 to 2011, Felix Klieser was a member of the Federal Youth Orchestra, with which he has given concerts in major concert halls in Germany and abroad. In 2010 he received the “Life Award” in the “Art and Culture” category in Innsbruck.

In autumn 2014 Felix Klieser received the ECHO Klassik Prize in the category “Young Artist of the Year (Horn)” as well as the Music Prize of the Association of German Concert Directors . He received the Leonard Bernstein Award in February 2016.

In 2019 Felix Klieser recorded all of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's concerts for horn and orchestra together with the Camerata Salzburg .
