Felix Mandre

Felix Mandre (born May 7, 1928 in Misso , Estonia ; † June 1, 2014 ) was an Estonian conductor and pianist .

Life and music

Felix Mandre was born in the extreme south of Estonia as Felix Kurt Eduard Madsen. He was the fourth child of a father of Danish origin and a Polish mother from Riga . In the 1930s the family moved to the Tallinn district of Kadriorg and adopted an established family name.

Mandre began taking piano lessons in Tallinn in 1939 at the age of eleven. In 1953 he completed his studies with Els Aarne and Villem Kapp in Tallinn .

Since 1945 Felix Mandre worked as a pianist in Estonia. He achieved great success in the Mikid Orchestra (also Mickeys ), which was later renamed Rütm . Mandre became one of the most famous entertainment musicians in Estonia. He appeared frequently on Estonian and Soviet radio and television.
