Felix Valera (* 19th January 1988 in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic as Felix Manuel Valera Alvarez ) is a Dominican boxer in light heavyweight and current unbeaten WBA -Interimsweltmeister.

Amateur career

Among the amateurs, Valera competed in the middleweight division and won the silver medal at the Central America and Caribbean Games in 2010 in the Puerto Rican port city of Mayagüez . There he defeated Dario Alfaro in the quarterfinals and Jose Bernal in the semifinals by unanimous decision and suffered a clear defeat in the final against home boxer Enrique Collazo .

Professional career

At the end of September 2012 Valera made his professional debut against his compatriot Jose Morla in the Dominican city of La Romana with a classic knockout victory in the first round.

In October 2014 Valera won the battle for the vacant Dominican championship against Eduardo Mercedes by giving up after the first round. Two months later he knocked Emiliano Cayetano in an 11 round fight in round 4 and defended his title. He also won the vacant WBA Fedelatin title with this victory.

In his 13th fight it was about the interim world championship of the association WBA. This was also the first for Valera to be scheduled for 12 rounds. His opponent was the former WBC Youth Champion , the Ukrainian Stanislav Kashtanov . Valera decided this battle by a split judge's decision (116: 112, 111: 117, 115: 113). This argument was the first that he could win on points. The Dominican, who is very powerful for a light heavyweight, won his first 12 fights prematurely.
