Felix Wittlin (1985)

Felix Max Wittlin (born October 19, 1929 in Basel ; † August 8, 2017 ) was a Swiss professional military man, personnel manager and federal civil servant.

Life

Felix Wittlin grew up in Basel, where he also attended schools, including grammar school. This was followed by a law degree in Basel and in Heidelberg , where he received his doctorate in 1953 with the writing referendums without legal basis . Wittlin began a career as a professional military man in the Swiss Army at an early age . He became head of section in the General Staff and then worked for 20 years as an artillery instruction officer in the rank of brigadier in western Switzerland. At that time, there were strong links between the army and business elites in Switzerland. In 1973 he decided to switch to industry. He was appointed Personnel Director at Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) in Baden AG . As an exception in the Swiss industry at the time, he was a member of the executive board as HR manager at BBC. His family moved to Baden in German-speaking Switzerland. Even before the BBC merged with the Swedish ASEA to form ABB , he took over the post of Armaments Chief of the Swiss Army in 1985, now at the Federal Office of Armaments ( armasuisse ) . During his tenure, important procurement decisions were made, such as the purchase of the American F / A-18 fighter jets and new armored personnel carriers. After retiring at the age of 62, he took on board memberships at the Agie Charmilles machine factory and at the telecommunications supplier Ascom . From 1994 to 2000 he was Chairman of the Board of Ascom at a time of upheaval.

Even while he was on the board of directors, his family lived in the canton of Vaud in western Switzerland.
