The Felixsee ( Lower Sorbian Feliksowy jazor ) is an artificially created lake in the municipality of the same name west of the city of Döbern in the Spree-Neisse district . It was created by the flooding of a brown coal mine .
General
The Felixsee is located in the Muskau fold arch and is about 12 kilometers east of Spremberg and 15 kilometers south of the A15 . From 1850 to 1930 the present lake was an open-cast lignite mine. The name Felixsee goes back to the name of the open pit "Felix".
There are several stretches of beach at the lake . In October 2004 the 36 m high Felixsee observation tower was opened directly on the shore .
