Organ in the Franciscan Church in Pressburg, where Moczik worked

Felizian Josef Moczik (born September 9, 1861 in Banská Štiavnica , † August 18, 1917 in Pressburg (Bratislava)) was a Slovak musician ( organist and choir director ) and painter .

Life

Moczik was among the Franciscans taught in Bratislava in organ and subsequently at the local Franciscan church organist. Although he made his profession in 1893, he became a secular priest after a reform in 1896. Then he worked as the house chaplain of Archduke Friedrich and founded and directed a boys' choir. One of his students was the Viennese composer Franz Schmidt . Moczik was also active as a painter and created numerous paintings.

Father Felizian's life came to a tragic end. As an organ expert, he gave the organ builder Karl Schönhofer an unfavorable testimony: he attacked him in front of the Franciscan Church in 1917, whereupon Moczik died two days later.
