history

Fender Duo Sonic Mexico

The Duo Sonic is a simply built but effectively laid out guitar with a shorter scale length of 571.5 millimeters than the other Fender guitars with a scale length of 647.7 millimeters. Another model, the Duo Sonic II , with a scale length of 609.6 millimeters was also launched. In 1969 production was stopped because the Fender Mustang was far more successful with its vibrato system . Production resumed under the Fender Mexico series in the mid-1990s , but was finally discontinued in 1997.

In 2008 the Duo Sonic was reissued as a vintage model by the Fender subsidiary Squier , which is based on the 1950s models of the Duo Sonic .

In 2016, the “Offset” series brought the Duo-Sonic back to the Fender portfolio. In addition to the classic configuration with two single-coil pickups, a model with a single-coil neck pickup and humbucker bridge pickup with coil split function is also available. Both variants have a 24 ”scale. Further features are fingerboards with a radius of 9.5 "and a hardtail bridge. The instruments are manufactured at the Mexican production site in Ensenada .

Construction and technology

The Duo Sonic is a solid body guitar, which means that it consists of one or more parts made of solid alder or ash wood . At the transition from the body to the neck there are two recesses, the so-called double cutaway, which enables comfortable play in the high positions and more freedom of movement. The neck and the fingerboard are either made of one piece of maple or a separate rosewood fingerboard is glued on. Compared to the other Fender models, the fingerboard has only 21 frets instead of 22 .

The Duo Sonic has two single-coil -Tonabnehmer (English: pickup ). Due to the inclined installation position of the pickups, the bass components in the sound should be amplified. The pickups are managed by a selector switch, with which the pickups can be switched both individually and together, and a tone and volume control. The electronics are covered and shielded by a plastic plate. The strings pass over a fixed mounted bridge (English: fixed bridge , not movable bridge), three saddles with which the string height and height can be adjusted, the head plate . The headstock is based on the Fender Stratocaster . On the newer models it has the Fender logo, as well as the type designation and the serial number. On 1950s models, the serial number is on the back of the headstock.
