Fennymore's trip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fennymore's Journey or How to Make a Dachshund in a Salt Coat is a children's book by Kirsten Reinhardt .

content

It tells the story of the ten year old Fennymore. Since his parents disappeared a few years ago, he has lived alone. His only friend is the Monbijoux bicycle, who thinks it is a horse. Fennymore strictly adheres to a regular and somewhat strange rhythm of life that leaves little time for school attendance. Every Sunday at three minutes past three his aunt Else visits him with her favorite dish: a dachshund in a salt coat. When Aunt Else dies at the beginning of the book, Fennymore's well-ordered life falls apart. Together with his classmate Fizzy Kobaldini - the rebellious youngest member of a family of nine - Fennymore goes on an adventurous journey. The two children come to the evil machinations of Dr. Watch out for the tricks and reveal the secret of the silver-gray gentleman. In addition to the subject of death, the book is also about friendship and overcoming prejudice.

Illustrations

The book contains pen drawings by the British children's book illustrator David Roberts , who illustrated works by Philip Ardagh and Julia Donaldson , among others . His black and white drawings often take up a whole page. They are characterized by distorted relations and an overemphasized vertical, which underlines the bizarre nature of the plot. The figures wear tubular clothing, they appear stiff and grotesque.

criticism

Fennymore's Journey or How to Make a Dachshund in a Salt Coat was well received by the press . The FAZ wrote: "A magical example of how subtle but sophisticated fantasy in German can escape the condescending cuteness sound that still prevails in such things in this country. (...) Kirsten Reinhardt does not squeak anywhere. She sings, whistles, hums and speaks along Voices that you want to hear more often ". The Kieler Nachrichten judged: "A really nice and weird self-discovery novel"; With "Roald Dahl" lets greet " Focus-Schule made one of the numerous Roald Dahl comparisons in the book.
