Heinrich August Wilhelm Ferdinand Fischer (born May 13, 1842 in Rödermühle near Wulften am Harz ; † June 28, 1916 in Homburg in front of the height ) was a German chemist who dealt with chemical engineering .

Ferdinand Fischer, the son of a miller (owner of the Rödermühle), studied physics and chemistry in Göttingen, Berlin and Jena and received his doctorate in Jena in 1869. In 1870 he passed his senior teacher examination and taught at the Hanover secondary school from 1871 to 1879. Then he devoted himself entirely to chemical engineering. From 1894 to 1912 he taught chemical technology at the University of Göttingen , from 1898 as an associate professor.

He dealt with chemical technology, especially fuel technology, and was a distinguished author on it at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. He campaigned for the introduction of chemical engineering as a subject and for a regulated chemist education.

In 1886 he was one of the founders of the German Society for Applied Chemistry, and later the Association of German Chemists . He was the founder and until 1898 sole editor of the Zeitschrift für Angewandte Chemie .

His Handbuch der Chemischen Technologie with Johannes Rudolf Wagner (1822–1880) was also translated into English. With Wagner, he also published the yearbook on the achievements of chemical technology from 1880 onwards. He was editor of the book series Die Chemische Technologie in single representations (Spamer, Stuttgart), in which he wrote the volumes Kraftgas und Wasser.
