Ferdinand Mühlenberg (born December 12, 1927 ) is a former German soccer player who played 83 games in the Oberliga West for Meidericher SV .

Career

Mühlenberg came from the youth of Meidericher SV and moved up in 1950 in its first team. This fought in the 2nd League West for promotion to the Oberliga West, which was the top division in the then still regionally limited league system. During the 1950/51 season, Mühlenberg was able to fight for a regular place in the five-player offensive and, among other things, contributed to the leap into the first division with eight own hits. On August 26, 1951, he reached his league debut in a 0-0 win against Schwarz-Weiß Essen . In the following time he was able to keep his regular position and together with Hans Krämer , Paul Hufnagel , Karl Hetzel and Kurt Küppers formed the attack line of the MSV. While Hetzel appeared as a scorer for years and even became top scorer in 1951/52, Mühlenberg only rarely scored his own goals.

In the first half of the 1950s, Meiderich was initially able to establish himself with his participation in the league, but at the end of the 1954/55 season was in acute danger of relegation. On the last day of the match, Mühlenberg and several teammates missed numerous goal opportunities in the 2-0 draw against SV Sodingen , which resulted in the relegation to the second division due to the simultaneous victory of Westfalia Herne . For the desired promotion, a new coach came with Hermann Lindemann , who relied on young players and only rarely fielded experienced players such as Karl Hetzel, Fritz Matzko , Wilhelm Schmidt and Mühlenberg. In the course of the 1955/56 season he was called up a total of 14 times and thus played around half of all games on the way to the direct recovery achieved in 1956. In the following time he finally had to give way to a new generation of players and could no longer assert himself in the top division. His teammates, on the other hand, presented themselves successfully and regularly occupied single-digit positions in the table in the late 1950s. Mühlenberg, who had played a total of 83 league games with six hits and 41 second division games with nine goals for Meidericher SV, was not called up again from 1958. Until 1960, however, he was part of the squad, making him a member of the MSV first team for ten years.
