Fritz Matzko (born July 23, 1924 ) is a former German soccer player who played 82 games in the Oberliga West for Meidericher SV .

Career

Matzko played in the late 1940s for the Duisburg club SV Beeckerwerth , which in 1949 was promoted to the then third-class Lower Rhine regional league. Although he had to accept direct relegation with the team in 1950, he even managed to move to the higher-class Meidericher SV within the city. At that time, the MSV fought in the 2nd League West for promotion to the Oberliga West, which was the top division in the then regionally limited league system.

In Meiderich he took a permanent place from the start, missed no match during the 1950/51 season and made the leap to first class with the team. On August 26, 1951, the versatile player made his league debut in a 0-0 win against Schwarz-Weiß Essen . In the following time he was only rarely called up, but from 1952 onwards he developed into a regular player again. The MSV was able to establish itself in the top division during these years. In contrast, at the end of the 1954/55 season, they were relegated to the second division, with the gap to the upper half of the table only a few points due to a very even distribution of points. Subsequently, the club aimed to return to the league, for which coach Hermann Lindemann relied on young players and experienced players such as Karl Hetzel , Ferdinand Mühlenberg , Wilhelm Schmidt and Matzko were only considered sporadically. 1956 succeeded the direct rise, while Matzko left the club after 82 league games without his own hit and 34 second division games with two goals.
