Paul Hufnagel (born September 22, 1925 , † January 11, 2008 in Duisburg ) was a German soccer player and soccer coach. The offensive player played a total of 114 league games between 1949 and 1957 in what was then the first-class football Oberliga West at the Duisburger Spielverein , Rheydter Spielverein and Meidericher SV , scoring 36 goals.

career

Hufnagels career in the Oberliga West began in 1949/50 with old master and Oberliga promoted DSV. When he reached 10th rank, the right winger had scored seven goals in 16 league games in the World Cup system used at the time alongside goal scorer Willi Koll (30/17). The following season he was drawn to a newcomer, now to the Rheydter Spielvereinigung. Here he was able to come up with only eleven inserts (1 goal) under player-coach Fritz Pliska and joined the champions of the 2nd League West, Meidericher SV, for the 1951/52 season. Here he belonged straight away with 22 league appearances and seven goals at the side of center forward Karl Hetzel of the core formation of the "Zebras". In the 1954/55 season he was surprisingly relegated to the 2nd league with the MSV, but from which he and his teammates immediately returned as runner-up in 1955/56 . Under coach Hermann Lindemann he contributed six goals in 17 second division games. With five games and one goal, Hufnagel said goodbye to the Oberliga West in the 1956/57 season. The agile right winger was considered one of the top performers of his team. In the league he came to 28 goals in 87 games for the Meidericher.

He then acquired a license to teach football under the later national coach Helmut Schön and initially moved to Bayer 05 Uerdingen, today's Krefeld FC Uerdingen , as youth manager . As a coach of the first team, he led them in 1963 into the third-class association league, which was the greatest success in the club's history up to that point.

In 1965 he took over the post of head of the football department and in this function directed the further rise of Krefeld. First, in 1971, the first promotion to the then second -rate regional football league West took place . He also played a major role in promotions to the Bundesliga in 1975 and 1979. In 1981 he finally resigned from office.
