Kurt Küppers (born July 3, 1929 ) is a former German football player who completed 153 matches in the Oberliga West for Meidericher SV .

Career

Beginnings in Osterfeld (until 1950)

Küppers was active as a player at SV Osterfeld 06 in the immediate post-war years following the Second World War . As a 19-year-old, the striker was part of the team that played for SVO for the first time in the 1948/49 season after their successful promotion to the Lower Rhine regional league. In the following time he was able to establish himself and became one of the most important goal scorers of the team. As a result, he aroused the interest of Meidericher SV from the 2nd League West , who signed the junior player in the summer of 1950.

Senior league years with Meiderich (1950–1959)

The 2nd League West, in which the MSV competed at the time, formed the substructure for the Oberliga West, which represented the top division in the then regionally limited league system. During the 1950/51 season Küppers was able to fit into the team immediately and was an integral part of a successful storm. With 20 goals he was behind Karl Hetzel (26 goals) and in front of Hans Krämer (19 goals) the second strongest shooter of his team. Ultimately, the offensive performance contributed to Meiderich's 1951 promotion to the league.

He made his debut in the top division on August 19, 1951, when he was on the pitch in a 1-1 draw against Prussia Dellbrück . After that, he remained an integral part of the team, even if he was able to score far fewer goals after promotion. With his colleagues he was able to establish himself in the top league in the early 1950s. In the 1953/54 season he was able to record the most successes with twelve hits within the team, but the offensive this year was extremely weak and relegation was barely avoided.

At the end of the 1954/55 season, the fall into the second division followed. Küppers, who was known for longer dribbling in the direction of the opposing goal, followed the MSV there and experienced direct resurgence a year later . Under coach Hermann Lindemann , he had played 23 games in the second division alongside teammates like Heinz Bohnes , Erich Dziwoki (14 goals), Werner Müller (15 goals), Erich Neumann , Kurt Nolden , Erwin Pajonk and Gerd Schönknecht . His role had changed in the meantime, so that he hardly appeared as a goal scorer. Meiderich was back in the big league, but Küppers lost his regular place in 1957 and was only rarely considered from then on. In 1959, his career at Meidericher SV ended after 153 league games with 27 goals and 52 second division games with 20 goals.
