Ferdinand Reiter (politician)

Ferdinand Reiter (born February 6, 1926 in Ritzing ; † October 7, 2013 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and teacher. From 1963 to 1988 Reiter was a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament and president of the state parliament.

Reiter attended high school and the teacher training institute in Vienna. Between 1943 and 1946 he served in the Reich Labor Service , was drafted into military service and was a prisoner of war. After the Second World War he started teaching in Zistersdorf and was a local councilor in Zistersdorf from 1955 . Subsequently, he was mayor from 1960 to 1985 and also served as vice-president between 1967 and 1971 and as president of the Austrian Association of Municipalities between 1971 and 1987 . He also worked as Vice President of the Lower Austrian Red Cross between 1969 and 1971, was chairman of the ÖVP Association of Local Representatives in Lower Austria from 1973 to 1986 and also held other party functions. Reiter represented the ÖVP in the state parliament between April 25, 1963 and February 25, 1988 and was the third president of the state parliament from November 19, 1964. On April 9, 1981, he was promoted to the 1st President of the State Parliament, where he held his office until he left the State Parliament. 1986 received the high and rare honor ring of honor of the state of Lower Austria .

He was the bearer of:

  • Large silver medal on ribbon for services to the Republic of Austria.
  • Winner of the Great Gold Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria.
  • Winner of the Golden and Silver Commander's Cross of the Decoration of Honor with Star for Services to the State of Lower Austria.
  • Honorary President and Ring Bearer of the Austrian Association of Municipalities.
  • Honorary citizen, honorary ring bearer and mayor a. D. of the municipality of Zistersdorf.
  • Honorary chairman and ring bearer of the Lower Austrian Association of Community Representatives ( ÖVP ).
