The Ferdinandskapelle or Badlkapelle is a chapel in the market town of Peggau in Styria . It was built in the middle of the 19th century, is now owned by the Austrian Federal Railways and is a listed building ( see list of monuments ).

The chapel is located north of Peggau in the Badl district near the Badlwandgalerie .

history

The chapel was built in 1847 by the Italian entrepreneur Felix Tallachini in memory of the 41 workers who died during the construction of the Badlwandgalerie. The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) financed a restoration in 1967.

description

The neoclassical chapel has a construction area of ​​72 m² and offers space for around 50 people. The stone structure has three arched skylight windows with stained glass. The gable area on the front is decorated and on the back there is a small bell tower without a bell. The entrance portal is secured by two wrought iron doors.

The altarpiece shows an oil painting of St. Ferdinand . There are four wooden prayer chairs in the chapel .
