Ferdynand Ruszczyc
Ferdynand Ruszczyc (born December 10, 1870 in Bohdanów , † October 30, 1936 ibid) was a Polish painter and graphic artist of symbolism .
Ruszczyc studied law at the University of Saint Petersburg from 1890 . From 1892 to 1897 he trained as a painter at the Academy of Fine Arts with Iwan Iwanowitsch Schischkin and Archip Iwanowitsch Kuindschi . During vacation stays in Crimea, Rügen, Bornholm and in southern Sweden he found motifs for his paintings. On a trip to Europe in 1898 he visited a. a. Berlin, Cologne, Paris, Brussels, Basel, Milan, Venice and Vienna.
In 1899, 1901 and 1901 he took part in group exhibitions of the magazine Mir Isskustwa . Since 1900 he was a member of the Polish artists' union Sztuka , with which he exhibited regularly. He also took part regularly in the exhibitions of former graduates of the Petersburg Art Academy (from 1900) and the Warsaw Towarzystwo Zachęty Sztuk Pięknych (Society for the Promotion of the Arts, 1904-07).
With Kazimierz Stabrowski , Xawery Dunikowski , Konrad Krzyżanowski and Karol Tichy he founded the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw , where he taught. In the academic year 1907–1908 he held the chair of landscape painting at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts .
In 1908 he organized an exhibition of Polish painting in Vienna with Józef Mehoffer . Then he settled in Vilnius. Here he devoted himself to teaching, organized cultural events and worked as a graphic designer, poster designer and illustrator. As a costume designer, he participated in several performances of the city theater, and he was a member of the committee for the preservation of the city's Adam Mickiewicz monument. 1918-19 he took part in the establishment of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Stephan Báthory University , whose first dean he became.
