Karol Tichy

Karol Tichy (* 1871 in Bursztyn , † 1939 in Warsaw ) was a Polish painter.

Tichy studied at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow , later in Munich and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. With Kazimierz Stabrowski , Xawery Dunikowski , Konrad Krzyżanowski and Ferdynand Ruszczyc he founded the Warsaw School of Fine Arts , where he taught from 1904. His narrow painterly work includes genre pieces ( Elegia , around 1905), portraits ( Portret Zofii Jachimeckiej , around 1915), landscapes and drawings ( Kobieta z figurką Światowida ). He also designed furniture, textiles and ceramics and worked as a set designer. Some of his works were destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising .
